• The congress website says each proponent may present only one paper at the congress. May I present a paper as first author and integrate other papers as co-author?

Each proponent can present only one paper at the congress as first author. The author of a paper may appear as co-author in other papers if he/she takes responsibility for its presentation in the panel where he/she is featured as first author. The congress administration is not responsible for overlaps in the schedule when someone has a presentation in the congress as first author in a panel and as co-author at another panel and intends to be present at both. In case of overlap the proponent should prioritize being present in the panel where he/she is the paper’s first author.

  • I am coordinating a panel. May I present a paper in the panel I coordinate and a second paper at another panel?

The panel coordinator may present just one paper during the congress as first author (but he/she may be featured as co-author in other papers). If a panel coordinator presents a paper at that same panel, he/she may not present another paper at another panel. If he/she presents a paper at another panel, he/she cannot present at the panel where he/she is coordinator.

  • Does the co-author of a paper have to pay the congress registration fee?

Everyone who attends the congress has to pay the fee. The co-author of a paper who is not present at the congress does not have to pay the registration fee. The payment of the fee by the first author is mandatory and insures that its paper is included both in the program of the congress and in the digital book of abstracts.

  • Do the coordinators, co-coordinators and discussants have to pay the congress registration fee?

All participants must pay for the registration fee no matter what their role is at the congress (author, co-author, coordinator, co-coordinator, moderator, discussant, etc.). Only APA’s members have a discount in the admission fee. All others should pay the non-associate fee. The coordinators and co-coordinators of a panel must pay for the fee in order to secure that their panel is included both in the program of the congress and in the digital book of abstracts.

  • I have a paper approved for presentation. How can I register for the congress and pay the registration fee?

All information about registration, deadlines and payments is available here in the congress website.

  • Will the congress proceedings be published?

The congress proceedings will not be published. The digital book of abstracts will be made available at the congress website. The panel coordinators are free to collect the papers presented at their panels and arrange their own publishing in magazines, books, etc.

  • Is there a strict deadline for sending the full papers to the panel coordinators?

The congress administration hasn’t established a deadline for sending the final papers to the panel coordinators. However, the coordinators can and should establish that deadline according to the planning they come up with for their panel. Please consult with your panel coordinator for more information.

  • What is the payment deadline for participants with a submitted paper to ensure that their names are included in the final program and digital book?

Participants whose papers have been accepted should pay for the registration until May 24th so that their names are included in the final program and digital book.

  • To whom should the requests for a letter of approved paper be submitted to, in order to request for grants?

The requests should be sent by the participants directly to the congress administration via the e-mail apa2019.apantropologia@gmail.com. Requests must be presented by the proponent and not by third parties. These requests should mention “DOCS_APA2019” in the email subject.

  • Does the Portuguese Anthropological Association (APA) have some type of funding or support to help with travel and/or accommodation costs of those who participate in the congress?

APA is a non-profit association without external funding that subsists only on membership fees and congress registration fees (that fund the congress). The yearly membership fee is very low and very few associates pay for that same fee in between congresses (every 3 years). Therefore, APA is not capable of supporting any expenses the participants have regarding travel and hotel costs.

  • I am an associate but I don’t recall if I paid my membership fees. How can I verify this situation, so I may benefit from the associate discount in the congress registration fee?

To verify your associate conditions please send an e-mail requesting that information to secretariado.apantropologia@gmail.com. Given the large number of participants involved, and in order to organize the correspondence with all participants, we ask that the requests related to this issue be sent with “QUOTA_APA2019” in the e-mail subject.

  • I am member of the APA and I am currently enrolled in a higher education course. Do I have a discount on the registration fee?

A member of APA who is enrolled in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd cycle of studies can benefit from a 50% discount on the registration fee applicable to APA members. An official certificate of enrolment and registration issued by the higher education institution will be requested.

  • I am not an APA member but I am currently attending a higher education course. Do I have a discount on the registration fee?

Only members of APA have a discount on the congress registration fee. For the rest, even if they are students, we apply the general registration fee for non-members.

  • I’m unemployed. Do I have a discount on the registration fee?

A discount of 50% will be applied to those who present an official document proving the unemployment situation. The competent authority in Portugal for the issuance of this document is the Instituto de Emprego e Formação Profissional. For residents outside Portugal an official document from the competent authority in their country of residence must be presented.

  • I am a member of the Brazilian Association of Anthropology (ABA). Can I pay my registration with the reduced amount that is applied to the members of the Portuguese Anthropological Association (APA)?

The APA has a protocol with the Brazilian Association of Anthropology (ABA) under which ABA members can pay the same registration fee as the effective members of the APA. To do so, they must prove that they are members of the ABA and send proof of current membership. The minimum amount to be paid corresponds to the general value for APA members. No discounts are applied for students.

  • On the congress website it is stated that “non-members who are members of other associations with which the APA have a reciprocity protocol can benefit from a discount on the registration fee”. Which associations have a protocol with the APA to reduce the registration fee?

APA has a protocol of reciprocity with the Brazilian Association of Anthropology (ABA), with the Network of Iberoamerican Anthropologists (AIBR), with the Asociación de Antropología del Estado Español (ASAEE) and with the Portuguese Sociological Association (APS). Members of ABA, AIBR and ASAEE with a current membership fee are entitled to a discount equal to the effective members of the APA (no student discounts apply). APS members receive a 20% discount on the general membership fee at the congress for non-members. The reciprocity protocol to be activated must be indicated on the registration form. In order to benefit from the reduction in the registration fee, you must send a statement issued by your association proving that your membership is updated. Validation of payment and registration depends on the sending of this document.

  • I am a student outside of Portugal and I do not have a scholarship. Can I pay for congress registration with the student discount?

Only APA members have a discount on the congress registration fee. For the rest, even if they are students, we apply the general registration fee for non-members.

  • I am a student at a Portuguese institution but I am not a member of APA. Can I pay for congress registration with the student discount?
